Besides the odd lipstick or an infrequent dabble in eyeshadow, these are the firm fixtures in my make up bag. Half of the week is spent make up free, while the other half consists of a long lasting base, brown eyeliner and mascara for a less harsh yet still defined eye, and a little bronzer/blush to contour and add a pink flush.

As much as I love trying and admiring beauty products, I'll rarely have more than one or two of a product on rotation (with the exception of lipsticks). Mainly due to a combination of believing that it isn't necessary to own every blush that hits the market, less is more, those expiry dates, and ultimately I have one face. Like fashion, beauty can become an expensive habit to indulge - high street or high end - and the grass isn't always greener. Also, my bank balance probably thanks me. And that's what samples are for...

I prefer to not have to touch up during the day, so, this is mainly an ode to primer prep: a smidgen of Dr Brandt pores no more pore refiner primer and my all time favourite Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer. I didn't expect much from Dr Brandt's offering but the light mousse-like texture really does blend out the appearance of pores upon application. It also looks like it wouldn't have a chance in hell of matching pale skin tones but it blends seamlessly. The downside? It's pretty pricey at £39.

Primers aside, the HD Brows kit is worth every penny, as is the Make Up Atelier Paris HD Foundation. HG foundation status. For eyes, since it's release I've loved Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner in Brown. It applies creamier than the black shade and hasn't dried out, either - a five second feline flick in a pot. On the days I fancy black liner, the Bourjois Liner Feutre is my go-to because the felt tip applicator is easy to use, it dries to a true black and doesn't budge throughout the day.
